What is the Power in Self-esteem?

A person with (genuinely) high Self-esteem can

• withstand negative comments better without getting emotional
• handle a put-down better without feeling hurt
• accept "negative" feedback without going on the defensive

That is just some of the Power of Self-esteem.

Self-esteem can be generated by compliments from others: this is Externally triggered self-esteem. It can also be generated from within: this is Internally triggered self-esteem. The 'External' is controlled by others: "if others giveth, then others can taketh."

The 'Internal' Self-esteem is better and desirable. We control it. No one else can take that away.
